    Description

    SAINT JOAN
    PLAYBILL 1977
    SIGNED
    by
LYNN REDGRAVE * PHILIP BOSCO * TOM ALDREDGE * PAUL SHYRE *JOSEPH BOVA
From one of the most gifted of theatrical families, the late LYNN REDGRAVE mounted the pyre for Circle in the Square's 1977 production of GEORGE BERNARD SHAW'S
    SAINT JOAN.
The play is spoken of as "a tragedy without villains". Attention then must be paid to the character and martyrdom of Joan. Shaw's tragedy opened in 1923 in London, only three years after Joan's canonization by the Catholic church. REDGRAVE, as Joan, came to this role both after and prior to success on stages in New York and London, all the while amassing a lengthy roster of film roles. Despite her successes in multiple genres and her nominations for Oscars, Tonys, Emmys and Grammys, REDGRAVE may be best remembered for her first star performance, the title role in the 1966 film
    Georgy Girl "
swinging down the street so fancy free.
    ..."
REDGRAVE died from breast cancer in 2010. Three years later the LYNN REDGRAVE THEATRE opened off-Broadway in New York City. The four other actors who signed this Playbill went on from supporting roles in
    SAINT JOAN
to respectable careers of their own on the New York stage. The cover of this Playbill is somewhat soiled but the signatures are clear. (See photographs.) The bottom right corner has a wrinkle of about 2" but the cover is intact. The lower left corner of the back cover is missing -- about a 1" tear and there is a five-digit number penned on the cigarette ad. The date of this particular performance is penned in the lower left corner of the last page. All interior pages are intact and clean.
