Founded by Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goodrich in Akron, Ohio, in 1870, the B.F. Goodrich Companywas the first U.S. tire company to manufacture pneumatic and tubeless automobile tires. Henry Ford chose a Goodrich tire to install on his first Model A, introduced in 1903 as part of his failed first automobile company. A
1903 Ford Model A equipped with the tires became the first car to cross the United States from east to west, helping make Goodrich's fame. Goodrich startled the American automobile and tire industry by introducing the first American steel-belted radial tire in 1965, years behind European manufacturers. Still the radial was largely ignored until Michelin and Bridgestone exported their versions into the US after the 1973 gas crisis, and Goodrich exited the tire industry.
This ashtray looks like it was modeled after an old bias-ply tire, so it was probably made before 1965. It has the famous "Silvertown" label on it, a model first introduced by Goodrich in 1920. It has a perfect glass insert without chip, crack, or ding. Made of hard rubber, it measures 6 inches (16 cm) in diameter and 1.125 inches (3 cm) thickness. The glass ashtray is one-inch (3 cm) deep. Perfect for that petroliona 1950s garage or mechanic's shop, a recreated general or country store, or as a candy dish for your grandchildren. Or you could use it on your dresser or coffee table to collect those important things in your pocket, including pennies and lint. Free shipping in the US.
